Feb. 9--SMITHFIELD -- The Johnston County school system will ask county commissioners for more than $1.8 million for 28 new buses, the Board of Education decided Tuesday.
Education officials want the Board of Commissioners at their first March meeting to approve the purchase of eight new school buses to replace ones borrowed from the state this year when none were bought.
They also want 15 more buses to meet anticipated growth in the student population and five additional activity buses -- one with a lift for the handicapped, three to accommodate growth and one to replace a bus that was burned at Cleveland Middle School.…
