Yukos says a US legal ban on the sale of its production unit Yuganskneftegaz will remain in place unless it is over-turned by an appeal.

The firm earlier secured a temporary injunction specifically barring various western banks and Gazprom's now defunct oil arm, Gazpromneft, from taking part in a 19 December auction of Yuganskneftegaz, which was won by Baikal Finance Group, ultimately acquired by Rosneft.

Deutsche Bank and Gazprom are challenging the ruling on jurisdictional grounds, with an initial hearing on the appeal scheduled for 16-17 February. Yukos concedes that more challengers are likely to emerge from the large group of banks eager to finance …
