More funds set aside for tsunami victims.

Feb. 5--The Bank of Thailand yesterday announced that it was increasing its soft-loan assistance programme for tsunami victims by 18 billion baht to 48 billion.

Once combined with funds from commercial banks, the total size of the assistance programme will increase to 60 billion baht.

Yoottaphol Singhaumpai, the director of the central bank's communications and public relations office, said the increase was structured to fully meet the needs of outstanding aid applications.

Since the programme was announced on Jan 10, some 28.22 billion baht in loans to 1,099 tsunami victims have been approved, although actual disbursements have amounted to just ...
