5,000 traffic cops to enforce Ops Sikap VIII.

KUALA LUMPUR, Wed. - Ops Sikap VIII got under way today to reduce road fatalities during the Chinese New Year and Awal Muharam period.

To end on Feb 16, it will run together with the Road Transport Department's (RTD) "Ops Musim Perayaan" as part of an integrated road safety campaign.

An added measure to keep road death statistics down will be the ban on heavy vehicles on roads on Feb 7,8,12, and 13.

Federal traffic police chief Datuk Gingkoi Seman Pancras said 5,016 traffic policemen would be stationed at strategic points along major highways and roads to nab errant motorists.
