When Health Minister Dr. Peter Coleman proclaimed few years back that the Port City of Buchanan in Grand Bassa County was highly infested with the deadly HIV/AIDS virus, many people, especially Bassonians viewed the pronouncement as an affront, a conjecture and questioned the evidence on which it was based.

Minister Coleman at the time put the number of AIDS victims in the county at about 50,000.
