1The Federal Open Market Committee raised rates by a quarter point for a 6th straight meeting, surprising no one. The Fed also said in its post-meeting statement, virtually unchanged from December, that gradual hikes can continue at a "measured" pace. Traders expect more rate hikes in March, May and maybe June. Bush Details Social Security Plan
2In his State of the Union speech Wed., Pres. Bush was seen pressing Social Security reforms letting younger workers invest some funds themselves while maintaining benefits for people now age 55-plus, sources told AP. Bush also was to define other priorities like school reforms and an energy bill, as well as tout political progress in Iraq, Afghanistan and Palestinian areas.

3 Abdul-Aziz al-Hakim, a head of the Shiite cleric-backed slate seen leading in votes, signaled it would insist on naming the new PM. A pro-boycott Sunni clerical group said a gov't would lack a mandate due to low Sunni voting. PM Ayad Allawi, who met with various factions, said the election struck a blow to terrorists. He and al-Hakim vowed to include Sunnis in drafting a constitution.
