GRAEME McDowell continues to shake off "ring rust" following a lengthy winter break by competing in this week's Heineken Classic at Royal Melbourne.

Last week he tied 18th place in the Singapore Masters, after bagging a relatively meagre haul of birdies over the four rounds. Most of the successes were at long holes. It was a modest start for the 25 year old from Portrish, winning 9,528 euro to take 71st place in the new Order of Merit.

This week it is a par-71 test, featuring just two long holes, on the front side. Next week, it's off to sunny California for a the start of a three-tour test on the tough USPGA circuit.
