Nasdaq stocks logged smaller gains Tuesday than those seen in Monday's session, but higher volume helped the cause. The composite rose 0.3%, as did the Nasdaq 100.
Investors were looking ahead to Google's earnings announcement after the close and the Fed's interest-rate decision Wednesday. But volume still climbed 4% vs. Monday's level.
Google fell 3.72 to 191.90 in above-average volume during regular trading hours. But after the close the Internet search engine giant easily beat fourth-quarter earnings estimates. The stock was up about 9% in after-hours trading.
CTI Molecular Imaging gapped up 2.63, or 18%, to 17.36 in massive volume. The maker of imaging equipment used in the detection and treatment of cancer, cardiac disease and neurological disorders reported fiscal first-quarter earnings of 8 cents a share, up from 2 cents a year earlier. Sales growth gained 50% to $111.5 million.
The stock finally passed its June 2002 IPO price of $17 after fighting a yearlong downtrend.
Parlux Fragrances vaulted 3.08, or 14%, to 25.35 on 2 1/2 times its usual turnover. The ...
