Volatility may be built into market
A computer model that randomly bought and sold stocks closely predicted the bid/ask spread on stocks and price diffusion, or how quickly the price changed and by how much, on 11 stocks traded on the London Stock Exchange. Researchers at New Mexico's Santa Fe Institute say it suggests volatility may depend on the structure of the trading system rather than the actions of traders. The findings may help cut transaction costs and volatility.
