Complaints rise on Web auctions
The Federal Trade Commission received over 98,000 grievances over online auction transactions last year vs. 51,000 in '02. Internet auction-related complaints comprised 16% of all 635,000 filed with the gov't agency in '04, surpassed only by identity theft complaints. As well as the No. 1 online auction house eBay, other online auction providers include Overstock, Bidville and Yahoo. EBay fell 4.5% to 77.98. Overstock lost 7% to 48.39. Yahoo fell 1.5% to 34.75.

Gates pledges to work with EU
Microsoft Chairman Bill Gates, in a visit to EU headquarters in Brussels, Belgium, said his company was dedicated to cooperating with the EU despite a landmark antitrust ruling and $640 mil fine against the company. Last weekend, EU officials criticized Microsoft's plans to label its new Windows version in Europe "Reduced Media Edition." The EU had ordered it to remove its media player for competitive reason, but claimed the name change discouraged sales. Microsoft said it would consider an alternative label. Shares rose 0.5% to 26.39.
** Altiris warned it'll make 20-22 cents a share in Q1. Analysts had expected the IT management services firm to make 24 cents. Shares fell 10% to 29.30.
