Where do we get all the rules about our voting? Most of the basic ones are found in the document our Founding Fathers signed--the United States Constitution.
The Yak headed this summer to Philadelphia, where the Constitutional Convention took place and which now is home to the National Constitution Center, a museum where visitors can get a better idea of all the rights and rules spelled out in this important document.
You can read the words of the Constitution in textbooks, but visiting this museum really brings it to life.
Each article and amendment is spelled out with videos and interactive exhibits to let visitors get the feel of every point. The Yak began to see how the Constitution affects all our lives, especially voting.
The exhibit shows how the Constitution works today.
The outer ring of the exhibit tells how the document was started and is still changing with amendments. Videos with actors recreating discussions and debates tell how citizens shape and change the Constitution.
Inside the ring, you can wander to different displays that give different points of view and an idea of roles in our government. You can take the oath of office as a president or try on a robe of a Supreme Court justice.
