Henry Indyk was one of the Yak's first fans. Ten years ago, when he was in grade school, he was entering Yak contests and later served on the Yak's student panel.
So as part of the Yak's 10th anniversary celebration, the Yak decided to look Henry up--and is he glad he did!
The former student at St. Christopher Elementary School in Detroit is a junior at the University of Michigan. Not only did he remember the Yak fondly, he credited his strong study habits and academic success to having read the Yak daily as a kid!
"Reading a paper at an early age definitely instilled a love of reading," Henry said over lunch at an Ann Arbor restaurant.
"Keeping up with something every day--that's how you get through school. It's a good habit to form because you spend so much time reading for class. And it really keeps you connected to the world."
It was Friday and Henry had just finished a class on Shakespeare, the famous English playwright and poet. It was a quick lunch because he had to meet with an adviser.
The Yak asked Henry about his career plans.
