No one can know what's going to happen during a football season. But everyone can be pretty confident about this: The Detroit Lions will have a better offense than they did last year!
Last season, the Lions' offense ranked 32nd in the National Football League--and there are 32 teams in the league. But this year, they have some exciting new players and more speed than they've had in a long time.
Lions fans are looking forward to watching wide receiver Roy Williams, the seventh pick overall in this year's draft. The Lions also got former Michigan Wolverines wide receiver Tai Streets from the San Francisco 49ers.
They'll need to be on their game now that another wide receiver, Charles Rogers, is hurt again.
Charles suffered a broken collarbone in the first game and will miss the rest of the season. He also broke his collarbone early last season! Charles went to Michigan State.
But the most important players in the offense are Kevin Jones and Joey Harrington. Kevin, a tailback who was drafted in the first round this year, will be the main running back. That's a lot to ask of a first-year player! And Joey will be expected to be a lot better quarterback now that he has two years of experience and some faster targets to throw to.
The Lions think their defense will be improved, too. They were weak against the pass at times last year, but during the off-season they picked up cornerback Fernando Bryant and safety Brock Marion.
