Microsoft is taking off the training wheels for its ride into the search business.
On Tuesday, Microsoft will officially launch its own search service after several months of tests.
Loaded with bells and whistles such as local and desktop search and custom search feeds, the service is the company's formal challenge to rivals including Google, Yahoo and Ask Jeeves.
As of Tuesday, it will be available in 25 markets and 10 languages via the company's Web portal, MSN.com.
Microsoft might be perceived as a late entrant to search, but the game is still young, said Mark Kroese, general manager of information services and product manager for MSN.
"With the amount of information in the world doubling and tripling every several years," Kroese said, "it seems that this technology is in its infancy."
