ST VINCENT ' Grenadines topped the league table for detentions in the UK last year, with one in every five of its vessels that were inspected being held, writes David Osler.

And in a setback to efforts by its current management to improve the reputation of Belize, the Central American country clocked up a detention rate of over 19%.

Ireland came in in third place, with a detention rate of over 16%.

The statistics were revealed by Britain's Maritime and Coastguard Agency yesterday, in an analysis that showed 11 flag states had more detentions than average registers. The other nations on the list include ...
