Belgian power group Tractebel has agreed to buy up to one-third of the capacity of a new liquefied natural gas terminal in the US Gulf.
Tractebel has signed a heads of agreement with Sempra LNG on the Cameron LNG import terminal under development near Lake Charles, Louisiana.
Under the pact, Sempra LNG will sell Tractebel LNG NA between 325m and 500m cu ft per day of throughput capacity.
The agreement is non-binding but envisages finalising a definitive 20-year deal by the end of June.
Scheduled for completion in 2008, Cameron LNG will have an initial gas throughput capacity of 1.5bn cu ft per day.
