EIGHT foreign-flagged ships were detained in British ports last December, according to statistics from the Maritime and Coastguard Agency.
A further two vessels were still in detention from previous months.
The annualised detention rate for the 12 months to the end of December was 5.8%, a decrease of 0.1% on the annualised rate for November.
A number of vessels were singled out for special mention by the MCA.
Andreas K, a Panamanian flag bulk carrier of 17,467 dwt and 1977 year of build, was held in Newport for 14 days with 37 deficiencies. As this was the third detention in two years, the vessel will be refused access to any Paris memorandum port.
