Star Newcastle colt Fastnet Rock was last night halfway to Melbourne where he will try to repeat the feat of his former stablemate Choisir by winning Saturday's Lightning Stakes at Flemington.

As he has done with his father Paul's horses for the past 10 years, Shannon Perry spent the night at Tarcutta.

''I've been doing it this way for years and it seems to work,'' Perry said. ''There's a halfway motel for horses at Tarcutta which is great.

''Fastnet Rock is a great traveller and he's done enough work at home so all we have to do is get there safely and he'll be right on the day.'' While arch-rival Charge Forward will go through his paces this morning, Fastnet Rock will arrive at Flemington later in the day and have a leisurely time leading up to the Group One ...
