(From Canberra Times)
Tight bowling from the ACT Comets' young attack held the visiting NSW 2nd XI to a modest 4-285 on day one of the Cricket Australia Cup match at Manuka Oval yesterday.
Opener Francis Gill claimed 1-53 and quick Brett Anderton took 1-66 as the home team held a strong NSW squad to a crawl for most of the day in the Comets' third match of the second-tier domestic season.
The spearhead bowlers made use of a wicket that offered early movement and forced the NSW top order to bat with patience.
Top scorer Murray Creed faced 214 balls for his 90 and fellow opening batsman Corey Richards made 48 from 137 balls.
Debutant Adam Ritchard enjoyed a solid start, taking the new ball with Gill and finishing with an impressive 0-41 from his 20 overs.
Tuggeranong swing bowler Ritchard, who forced his way into the squad with scintillating form at an under-19 national carnival, was unlucky to have an early caught behind appeal turned down but responded in the field with a run-out to dismiss NSW No5 Stephen O'Keeffe for 36.
