CITING three infractions it said Talk 'N Text committed in fielding Asi Taulava last Sunday, Barangay Ginebra yesterday officially placed under protest Game 1 of the Gran Matador PBA Philippine Cup Finals which the Phone Pals won, 89-71, over the Kings.
Team manager Allan Caidic submitted the letter of protest signed by Barangay Ginebra board representative Arnaldo Africa to commissioner Noli Eala, who gave the Phone Pals until 5 p.m. today to refute the Kings' charges.
The foremost Talk 'N Text violation, according to Africa, was its defiance of the PBA's suspension of Taulava which the board refused to lift despite a recent Quezon City court ruling ordering the league to reinstate the Phone Pals' top player.
Africa argued that Taulava could not possibly be in the TNT lineup when the team submitted its official roster during the deadline for changing players set by the league last Jan. 14.
He added that Taulava, who was declared a "Fil-sham" by the Department of Justice last year, also failed to follow the procedure for reinstatement of a Fil-foreign player under rules recently approved by the board. Among the requirements are submission of a birth certificate and the marriage contract of the players' parents.
