WHO SAYS culture and the arts are only for the rich?
The Kalahi cultural services for the poor was launched yesterday in Malaca[currency]ang by the National Commission for Culture and the Arts.
Under this program, children and the youth from the 28 poorest provinces identified by the National Anti-Poverty Commission will train in dance, rondalla music, chorale singing, and the literary, theater and visual arts, as well as martial arts.
The "novel program" is supported by the NAPC and United Nations Resident Coordinator Deborah Landey.
"We have this traditional mind-set that culture is only for the elite and the rich. We're changing this notion with the program," Imelda Nicolas, NAPC secretary general and lead convenor, said yesterday in a press conference in Malaca[currency]ang.
