Feb. 1--CHIANG MAI -- Major Cineplex Group Plc, the country's biggest cinema chain operator, expects its market share to rise to 80 percent this year from 73 percent last year in line with new screen openings and promotions aimed at expanding movie attendance.
The company plans to invest nearly one billion baht this year to open 50 new screens nationwide, raising its total to nearly 300 by the end of the year.
Major, which merged with rival EGV last year, currently operates 240 screens with 55,576 seats at 27 locations. Second-ranked SF Cinema has 66 screens at eight locations.
