Feb. 1--The Commerce Ministry will recall about 3,000 operating licences for rice trading, milling and marketing from private companies before reissuing new licences that contain more stringent conditions to deal with cheats.
Commerce Minister Watana Muangsook said the new licences would empower the ministry to suspend and revoke licences if officials find that millers and traders have resorted to questionable methods to take advantage of farmers.
"Farmers have been cheated frequently when they sold paddy to millers or traders by receiving payments that were smaller than they should have been," he said yesterday.
