MANILA, Feb 1 Asia Pulse - President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo Monday congratulated all Filipinos, both at home and abroad, for the country's 2004 gross domestic product (GDP) growth rate of 6.1 per cent.

The figure is the highest GDP performance since 1996 during the incumbency of former President Fidel V. Ramos.

The Chief Executive said the economy's performance also "shows the resiliency and capacity of our people to overcome crisis, work hard on track to a better future."

"Our institutions are humming the tune of growth. I would like to thank Congress for focusing on the task of putting our fiscal house in order, and I would like to thank our farmers for keeping productivity high despite the calamities that visited us," the President said in a statement.
