DAVAO CITY, Feb 1 Asia Pulse - The Bureau of Immigration (BI) has recorded some 3,000 permanent aliens in Southern Mindanao as of December 2004.
According to BI Davao regional director Benjamin Lao, about 1,000 are Chinese who are engaged in various businesses while the others are Indonesians, Koreans, Americans, Australians and Europeans.
Lao also said they are in the process of establishing a database on foreign nationals present in the region, either permanent residents or tourists.
This was bared by Lao after the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) between the city government of Davao and the Bureau of Immigration on drug trafficking under Republic Act 9165.
BI Commissioner Alipio Fernandez, Jr. said it is important for them to know the status of these foreign nationals who are here either as residents or businessmen.
