A GBP3.7million contract to build a new road from Inverness airport to the A96 Aberdeen trunk road may have been put in jeopardy.

It was claimed yesterday that Network Rail has delayed negotiations over compensation for crossing the rail line south of the airport.

The project has been awarded GBP1million of European funds, with GBP109,000 coming from Highland Council.

There are fears the delay could lead to the funds being withdrawn, casting doubt over the future of the project and the multimillion-pound business park and freight handling service planned for the area.
