Jan. 27--The Wm. Wrigley Jr. Co. on Wednesday raised its quarterly dividend 19 percent, to 28 cents per share, as it reported earnings for the fourth quarter and year that fell short of expectations.

Shares of Wrigley's stock fell more than 2 percent, to $68.95, down $1.56 on the New York Stock Exchange, despite record sales results.

"We are very pleased with the solid performance of our core business in 2004, particularly the positive product mix in the U.S. and the volume gains" in Europe, the Middle East, Africa and Asia, said Ronald Waters, Wrigley's chief operating officer, in a statement.
