Jan. 27--BELLEVILLE -- Belleville's two public high schools have received a $300,000 grant from the state to institute a summer reading and math academy for freshman students.
The six-week, half-day program will begin in June and will provide two hours each of math and reading instruction daily for both incoming students and those who have completed their freshman year.
The grant will enable the district to hold the math and reading academy for two summers. It also will pay for teacher salaries, daily breakfast and transportation for the summer program, and math tutoring throughout the school year.
