Kailee Wells' second chance at life comes thanks to a phalanx of folks she has come to know throughout her 3-year battle with a rare blood disease.
But it also comes because of someone she doesn't know.
The 8-year-old Albuquerque girl underwent a life-or-death bone marrow transplant Tuesday at the Children's Hospital of Wisconsin in Milwaukee, where she has been treated for a year.
A hospital spokeswoman on Tuesday confirmed Kailee was undergoing the procedure but said no updates on her condition would be released until today at the earliest, if all goes well.
