Starting our 14th year of publishing Women in Higher Education, we learned that gender bias on campus is still a problem, but things are improving for most women.
Of respondents to the survey mailed with October's issue, a whopping 89% reported feeling gender bias at work. Most take an active role in response: They work behind the scenes to fight it or educate others as to its effects. About 40% said it's gotten better in the last year, while a disturbing 7% said it's been getting worse.
How has WIHE helped? About 90% of readers said it has helped them combat problems of bias. Many are planning career changes, and of those 15% expect to be a college or university president. Here's what else readers told us:
* How well does the newsletter meet your expectations? The majority of respondents were pleased.
52% very well 39% mostly 9% somewhat
* How much of it applies to your situation? Most said almost all or most of it applied to their role on campus.
