Ten qualities of effective leaders
Deborah Mahaffey likes change. She left higher education in September 2004 to become assistant state superintendent of public instruction. Previous changes had taken her from student activities at UW-Superior, where she earned her MSE in guidance and counseling, to VP of instruction, student services and economic development in the Wisconsin Technical College System (WTCS).
She's always looked for mentors and jobs where she could learn. She's discovered effective leaders:
