If Jon Gruden is luckier upgrading his coaching staff than his team was on the field last season, he will be naming Paul Hackett as his new quarterbacks coach soon. Perhaps today.

Hackett, who 14 years ago was a mentor of sorts for Tampa Bay's head coach, was interviewed by Gruden on Thursday to replace quarterbacks coach John Shoop, whose contract was not renewed.

Gruden jumped at the opportunity to contact Hackett, one of the gurus of the West Coast offense, after he resigned under pressure last week after four years as the New York Jets' offensive coordinator.
