SARASOTA COUNTY

John A. Burgess

John A. Burgess, 83, Sarasota, died Jan. 19, 2005.

He was born Feb. 18, 1921, in New York City and came to Sarasota in 1973 from Pound Ridge, N.Y. He worked in hotel and real estate management and was a Navy veteran.

Survivors include his wife of 45 years, Lee; daughters Melody Martin of Bradenton, Mary Agustin of Campbell, Calif., Michelle Moore of St. Croix, U.S. Virgin Islands, and Gem Burgess-King of Norristown, Pa.; sons John H. of Los Gatos, Calif., and Nicholas J. of Washington, D.C.; six grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Services and burial will be Feb. 17 in Arlington National Cemetery. Wiegand Brothers Funeral Home is in charge.

Memorial donations may be made to Walter Reed Army Medical Center, c/o Red Cross, 6900 Georgia Ave. N.W., Washington DC 20307.

Victor J. Conti

Victor J. Conti, 77, Sarasota, died Jan. 7, 2005, in New Castle, Pa.

He was born Nov. 19, 1927, in New Castle and came to Sarasota from there in 1992. He retired from the International Brotherhood of Boilermakers and had also worked for Penn Central Railroad. He was a Navy veteran of World War II, serving with the Seabees in the Pacific. He was a member of St. Margaret's Society and the Eagles.
