Jurors skipped over the latest takes on two of America's favorite sports cars and chose Chrysler's in-your-face 300/300C sedan for 2005 North American Car of the Year.
The 300/300C, Chrysler's return to large rear-drive sedans, took 313 out of 480 possible points. Ford's latest Mustang received 256 points, followed by the sixth-generation Chevrolet Corvette with 108 points.
On the truck side, where Ford brands placed three vehicles in the finals, the Ford Escape Hybrid won North American Truck of the Year honors. Escape Hybrid received 232 points, followed by Ford-owned Land Rover's LR3 with 163 points. The Ford Freestyle sportwagon completed the set with 148 points.
The North American Car and Truck of the Year jury includes 48 automotive journalists from the United States and Canada. The jurors chose the winners from a list of 17 cars and 12 trucks. The awards were announced at the North American International Auto Show.
