Excusez moi, car guys. You had fun this past summer, non? Maybe you made it to the Meadow Brook Concours d'Elegance, ran from event to event during the Monterey Weekend, or cruised L'Avenue de Woodward, eh? Bon. But my friend, if you missed the 13th International Citroen Car Club Rallye, you missed a good time.
This past August, 4000 Citroens and 20,000-plus Citroenthusiasts from more than 30 countries descended on the Reserve Swiss Air Force Base-Interlaken in central Switzerland for an international meeting of the marque. The magnificent setting, sandwiched between Lake Thun and Lake Brienz and surrounded by the snowcapped Eiger, Monk and Jungfrau peaks, was the site of the largest-ever ICCCR. Hundreds each of Citroen's most storied models-Traction Avants, 2CVs and DS-IDs- lined the taxiways and runway. Sprinkled among these were examples of most every car the avant-garde automaker produced, including a 1920 Type A, 1924 Type B10, 1930 Type C6F, 1932 Rosalie 10, numerous Ami 6s and 8s, Dyanes, Meharis, GS, CX and SM models (oppo-site page) and gaggles of every modern type since 1980. A host of Citroen commercial vehicles, trucks, ambulances, limousines, prototypes, kooky one-off specials and art cars added to the menagerie.
The airfield was a virtual Citroen city. A thriving parts bazaar and the "Citroen Village'' flanked the display and camping areas.
