The Tremeloes Here Comes My Baby (Sanctuary Midline)
When they split from Brian Peele in 1966 after eight hits, The Tremeloes looked to be another backing band bound for oblivion. Instead, Poole's star waned while theirs shone more brightly then ever, as they added a further 13 hits to their tally. Although at least the seventh Tremeloes "best of" issued by Sanctuary, this is possibly the finest, featuring, as it does, all of those hits and 68 more recordings in a three-CD set retailing for less than 15 [pounds sterling]. They clearly had a lot of fun and recorded some memorable songs, including the chart-topping Silence Is Golden-where they outshone the original Four Seasons version-the infectious Helule Helule and the Beatlesque (Call Me) Number One.
