'Rings' holds on to top rungs.(Box Office News[TM])

Though sequels "Ocean's Twelve" and "Meet the Fockers" were each able to outdo the bows of their predecessors (the latter by a stunning 61% over 2000's "Meet the Parents"), neither could approach the opening weekend heights reached in the previous three Decembers by helmer Peter Jackson's "Lord of the Rings" trilogy, each of which opened to more than $60 million. Trio may be broken up by yet another Jackson pic in December 2005, when Universal unleashes his new take on "King Kong."
