Been doing your homework in preparation for the collector car auctions in Arizona later this month? Well, car boys and girls, Craig Jackson says you'll need to add some new words to your vocabulary. Say "resto mods'' and "nouveau rods.''
Resto mod is a recent phenomenon in the collector car world. It refers to a vehicle created by combining what is basically an immaculately restored but stock-bodied collectable car with a modern suspension-independent rear and four-wheel discs-and a monster motor.
As an example, Jackson points to the yellow and white 1955 Chevrolet 210 custom two-door sedan with BelAir trim that was built by Steve Cook Creations and is sitting in the Barrett-Jackson Auction Co. showroom. The nouveau rod is an even newer phenomenon. A custom-built creation with a modern chassis, assorted new technologies and an equally awesome engine, the nouveau rod features a handcrafted body that looks like some French coachbuilders suddenly warped themselves 80 years into the future.
