Jan. 8--HONG KONG -- Despite its massive death toll of some 150,000 lives, the deadly tsunami is likely to have minimal impact on the regional economy, possibly trimming regional gross domestic product growth by less than 0.01 percent, according to MasterCard International.
Speaking at a conference on consumer confidence trends, economist Yuwa Wong said that Thailand's GDP growth was likely to be slightly affected since revenue generated by the six affected provinces in the South accounted for 1 percent to 2 percent of national GDP.
