Jan. 8--Prices of construction materials sold in the six southern tsunami-stricken provinces will be frozen for at least six months and some will even be cut by 5 percent to 15 percent to help ease the burden on the victims of the disaster, according to the Internal Trade Department.
The department's director-general, Siripol Yodmuangcharoen, said manufacturers were willing to cut the prices of cement and steel by 15 percent and 12.5 percent below normal market prices, respectively, for one year and the prices of ceramic products, nails, electrical wire and PVC pipes by 10-15 percent.
