ColorStudio, Version 1.5 recently changed hands from LetraSet Graphic Design Software to Fractal Design, its original developer. The only changes since our October 28, 1991, review are the company name, covers on the manual, price, and an updated README file. ColorStudio has abundant features that include a comprehensive tool palette, the built-in Shape Annex for PostScript drawing, and a ColorCalibrator module. System 7's Balloon Help, virtual memory, and Publish are fully supported.
ColorStudio has a set of PostScript drawing tools that let you create and edit PostScript objects in a separate layer.
The ColorCalibrator function lets you tailor a printer setting to your exact color print process. It can take into account the color of the process inks used in your proofing system to yield accurate and predictable results in print.
There are abundant image editing features -- full CMYK editing is supported, along with many filters and effects.
Two additional features open up ColorStudio for programmers and third-party developers. ColorTalk is a custom-effects programming environment, in which you can edit ColorStudio's built-in effects or create your own from scratch. The Plug-in option lets you access modules from third parties.
