Jan. 7--If anything good emerges from the tsunami that has devastated parts of southern Thailand, it will be a rising awareness of the need for insurance, according to American International Assurance (AIA).

"The devastating tsunami will have a big impact, as it will automatically raise awareness among Thais of the importance of insurance coverage," said Sataya Tepbunterng, vice-president and senior director for agencies at the country's largest insurer. "It would thus be good for the industry."
