Jan. 7--The National Economic and Social Development Board (NESDB) said yesterday the tsunami would not affect economic growth forecasts set earlier at between 5.5 percent and 6.5 percent for this year.
Although the deadly tidal waves that hit six southern provinces caused about 30-35 billion baht in damages and would stunt the growth of Thailand's gross domestic product by 0.35-0.4 percent, NESDB secretary-general Ampon Kittiampon said government spending on rehabilitation would alleviate the negative effects and boost the economy by 0.15 percent.
