Jan. 7--Instead of imitating world-class fashion houses and then undercutting their prices, Thai designers should try interpreting and developing new representations of the kingdom's unique cultural identity, according to an Italian fashion trend expert.
Thai designers could exploit an enormous advantage in international competitions by drawing on the exquisite, ethereal concept of "Thainess", which to outsiders automatically conjures up images of a delicate culture, serenity and service-mindedness, said Francesco Morace, a sociologist from the Domus Academy in Italy.
