Some of Phoenix's most prominent business leaders have banded behind America West Airlines with money and concessions. However, the gesture appears to be more one of moral than financial support.

The airline announced earlier this week that it had received an additional $50 million in debtor-in-possession financing: $15 million from a group of Arizona public and private entities and $35 million from GPA Leasing Group, Shannon, Ireland, which last year gave the airline an identical amount in DIP financing. America West leases 16 of its planes from GPA.
