Jan. 5--The Finance Ministry wants private companies to establish a 10-billion-baht research and development fund to help raise industrial competitiveness. But private companies have proposed a much smaller fund, at only around 50 million baht, according to officials.
Suparut Kawatkul, the ministry's permanent secretary, noted that even though the Revenue Department already allowed tax deductions of up to twice the amount companies spent on R&D, few companies had actually taken advantage of the programme.
