Jan. 5--The tsunami disaster and a trend toward lower oil prices is expected to slow down local consumption and put the country's inflation rate in 2005 at between 2.5 percent and 3.5 percent, according to the Commerce Ministry.
The latest projection is down slightly from the 3-3.5 percent range forecast earlier, according to Karun Kittisataporn, the ministry's permanent secretary.
He said the disastrous tidal waves that hit six tourism-dependent provinces in the South would inevitably affect consumption.
