Chicago Merc report disappoints
Shares in the futures and options exchange, which climbed more than 200% last year, fell 4.7% to 217.91 after releasing trading figures for Dec. The Chicago Mercantile Exchange reported average daily turnover of 2.84 mil contracts in Dec., 12% lower than in Nov. but 27% higher vs. a year ago. Total December volume fell 7% from Nov. but rose 27% from a year ago. The portion of CME's volume trading on its Globex electronic platform remained at about 67%.

Rival seeks to pressure Staples
Office Depot launched a new TV and print campaign to draw customers from market leader Staples. The No. 2 U.S. office retailer is also opening news stores in Staples' core region in the Northeast.
