The October 20 Pahrump Valley Times reported that one of its columnists, Dan Simmons, shot and wounded a home intruder, David Patillo, Jr., on October 19.
According to Simmons' account of the incident, Patillo had apparently targeted Simmons' home twice in the same morning. Initially, Simmons "was awakened at 5:30 a.m. by a woman staying in his guesthouse who said somebody was trying to break into the residence...." He grabbed a gun and went outside but couldn't find anyone.
Later in the morning, a neighbor who was at Simmons' residence told him that someone was coming up to the house. When he looked outside, he saw a man wearing a "hooded sweatshirt, work gloves and one of those Mickey Mouse respirators."
The stranger ordered Simmons outside. ...
