Jan. 3--Planes landed. Luggage arrived. Travelers headed home.
There was no replay Sunday of the Christmas weekend travel fiasco, when US Airways canceled more than 400 flights and lost more than 10,000 bags because of poor weather and unanticipated sick calls. Sunday was expected to be one of the holiday season's busiest travel days, and some had feared the surge of passengers would strain the airline's operations again.
At Charlotte/Douglas International Airport, where 90 percent of the passengers fly US Airways, most of the planes arrived on time or early on Sunday. A company spokesman said the airline had canceled just one flight, for routine maintenance. US Airways runs nearly 1,200 flights a day, excluding US Airways Express flights.
